Visiting the Battlefield

The battlefield today is easy to find, with a public trail being signposted by Norfolk County Council at the end of 2020 as the “Peasants’ Revolt & Walsham Wood” circular walks. This starts from North Walsham Railway Station and takes in both Bryant’s Heath and the central part of the favoured battlefield site, before heading back to North Walsham. As such it utilises public rights of way and avoids taking in the best-surviving of the three crosses, at Tollgate Farm, just to the east of the B1150, no doubt due to the risks of crossing a fairly busy road. As noted in the Battlefield section, two of the three crosses are accessible, although the third lies on private land. Care needs to be taken when visiting the most complete cross just to the east of the B1150 by Tollgate Farm.

Away from the battlefield is the parish church of St. Nicholas in North Walsham. A wooden sculpture by Mark Goldsworthy commemorating the Peasants Revolt is situated in Memorial Park, North Walsham.
