Battle of Gainsborough 1643

On Sunday 26th July, Don Smith will lead walk around the Gainsborough Battlefield. This battle, fought on 28th July 1643, was instrumental in Oliver Cromwell's growing reputation as a cavalry commander and saw the death of the 23 year old Royalist general, Charles Cavendish.
The event will start at 11am from outside the 15th Century Gainsborough Old Hall with a possible pre-walk briefing inside the Hall. The overall time for the talk/walk will be no more than two hours. The route is over paved footpaths and largely on level streets with just one steep hill to climb. There is parking available on the streets around Gainsborough Old Hall.
