Battle of Neville's Cross 1346

Sunday 13th September 2026

Join The Battlefields Trust's North Region for a guided walk around the site of the battle of Neville’s Cross (17th October 1346) where an English force defeated an invading Scottish army and captured the Scottish king, David II. 

The walk will start at 13:45 from near Tollhouse Road, DH1 4HU Durham and can be accessed by No 48 Bus route.

The route is about 2.5 miles and the walk will end at approximately 16:30. Much of the route is level but there are a few moderate gradients (up and down) and some of the route is unpaved and may be muddy and there are stiles – suitable walking footwear and clothing appropriate to the weather forecast are recommended. The route is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.  Remember to bring water if a hot day is forecast.  Well behaved dogs welcome but must be kept on a lead.

This walk forms part of the Trust's Big Battlefield Walks Weekends in September and is free to all (though any donations to the Battlefields Trust will be gratefully received). As a consequence pre-booking by 4 September 2026 is necessary using the contact details below. Detailed joining instructions will be provided to those who have booked tickets in advance of the walk date.
