Recommended reading on the battle

The most detailed and accessible of modern works is Hodges (2001), which presents the case for the northern battlefield site. However the detail provided there and in some other secondary works as to the deployments and the action is not based on the primary sources, which give no such information. The other important works are those by Brooke, Evans and Favell.
