Ketts Rebellion 1549 Walk

Saturday 18th May 2024

Led by local historian and expert in ‘things Norfolk’, Paul Dickson will take us on a two-hour walking tour of city centre Norwich concentrating on the background, sites and history of Kett’s Rebellion: July and August 1549.

The tour starts outside the Erpingham Gate [to the Cathedral] in Tombland at 10:30 and will finish there.

The tour will include the origins of Kett's Rebellion, a discussion about who Robert Kett was and why he got involved and visits to Bishop's Bridge and Palace Plain, both sites of fighting. We also visit Kett's Heights, where Robert Kett had his headquarters and enjoy the view of the city, along with a discussion about the arrival of the Earl of Warwick and the build up to the final battle - Battle of Dussindale. There will also be a talk about the possible locations for that battle and what happened during the battle.

Paid for City Centre public car parking is widely available. There are an extensive number of ‘park and ride’ options to the City Centre.

Norwich Station is a 12-minute walk from Erpingham Gate.

A charge of £7 to be collected in advance.

To book a place and get fuller details, please email Robert Simmons - East Anglia Regional Coordinator using the contact details below.

Mostly wheelchair accessible: special arrangements will be in place for access to Kett’s Heights.
