Battlefields Trust Online Talk: The War in Ukraine: Towards WWIII?

Tuesday 27th May 2025

The territory now known as Ukraine has been successively a Mongol khanate, part of Lithuania, part of the Polish Empire, and incorporated in Tsarist and Soviet Russia until the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 when its population voted for independence. This talk will trace the history of Ukraine from earliest times to the present, looking at the question of Crimea, asking whether Russian claims about its security have any validity, examining the course of the war to date and looking at what the future might bring.
