Battle of Lewes memorial in Priory Park

Battle of Lewes Festival

Saturday 9th May to Sunday 10th May 2026

A re-enactment of the battle of Lewes (May 1264) is to be held in the town with up to 150 re-enactors expected.

The battle between King Henry III with loyal barons and Simon de Montfort with rebel barons led to victory for the latter. It was a significant step towards parliamentary democracy.

The event starts at 10.30 a.m. each day with the re-enactors processing down the High Street, stopping three times to re-enact scenes from the battle. They then process to Priory Park, Lewes, BN7 1HP, where events will take place throughout the day and there will be numerous stalls and displays.
