Battle of Lewes 1264

As part of the Battle of Lewes Festival, John Freeman, Sussex coordinator of the Battlefields Trust, will be leading a free of charge walk on the battlefield site.

The walk will last two-and-a-half hours and will take in the battlefield trail which has information boards with QR-codes (accessed by mobile phone) with John adding additional information on the battle. The QR codes link to five-minute videos explaining different aspects of the battle with local actor Mark Williams setting the scene on each video. 

Meet at the County Hall west car park (BN71UE) at 2.00 p.m.

The battle site is on the Downs to the west of the town. Lewes is a charming medieval town with a Norman castle and ruins of a Cluniac priory so a visit is well worthwhile. Those attending the walk may wish to consider an overnight stay to allow them to see the Battle of Lewes Festival on Saturday 9 May.
