Battle of Littledean 1643

Saturday 11th April 2026

Join Gregg Archer for the Mercia Region’s first exploration of the battle at Littledean which saw Sir William Waller’s army driven out of the village by Prince Maurice’s royalists.

Meet at 1:30pm. The meeting point will be outside the car park entrance to the Belfrey Hotel (Broad Street, Littledean, Cinderford GL14 3JS) in the centre of the village. The walk is 1¼ miles in length and is expected to take 1¾ hours. The walk will be along field paths and roads so please bring stout footwear and waterproof clothing. Please be advised there is a steep ascent and decent along the walk route.

There is a small car park in Littledean, however spaces are limited. Parking is also available in the back streets of the main village. There are numerous pubs in both Cinderford and two hotels in Littledean which serve food. Please be aware this is a popular tourist spot and there may be waits on food times at the local establishments.
