Battlefields Trust Online Talk: O'Neill's Rebellion, 1596 - England's Worst Defeat in Ireland

Monday 7th July 2025

This talk will look at the beginning of O'Neill’s Rebellion in Ulster in 1596. The focus will be on the initial revolt, the battle of Clontibret and the disaster at Yellow Ford, considered to be England’s worst defeat in Ireland up to that point.

Steve is an ex-soldier with 12 years in Royal Signals and has long interested in Military History. While on a horse holiday in Northern England he saw a strange sign by the roadside for ‘Ad Gefin’ which started his interest in the Dark Age English kings.

He also writes poetry (One of which has been published) and is still trying to master the Blues harmonica and also wargames both online and with figurines.
