Memorial Notes:
Part of the Towton battlefield trail. The information boards at Towton Battlefield follow the traditional narrative of the battle. This largely follows the account of the Tudor chronicler Edward Hall with embellishments by 19th-century historians like Thomas Dunham Whitaker and Alexander Leadman. The battle interpretation is not corroborated by the 15th-century accounts which make no mention of Cock Beck or the 'Bridge of Bodies' (David Grummmitt, The Wars of the Roses; Volume 1, 1455-1461, The Triumph of York (Helion & Co, 2025)).
