Planning application at Norton St Philip rejected
23 January 2015
Last year the Trust's Wessex region was one of the objectors to a planning application to build houses on the Great Orchard at Norton St Philip - a development that would have impinged on the site of the action of 1685. Details can be found on the Mendip District Council Planning Portal at 2013/2217/FUL . We are pleased to say that the Council has rejected the application and that our objections were referred to at the meeting. This decision may yeyt be challenged by an appeal and/or a revised proposal so we will continue to monitor the situation with the assistance of our members in the area.
In the meantime an application has been made for the Great Orchard to be granted Local Green Space Status which will obviously improve its protection if granted. An event was held last June to mark the anniversary - another is in the pipeline this year and we hope to be involved.
