Battlefields Trust Online Talk: Fighting for our battlefields: Managing threats to England's historic fields of conflict

Tuesday 10th February 2026

Battlefields do not enjoy statutory protection from development and other threats in the UK and the Battlefield Trust responds to a planning application affecting a registered battlefield roughly once every fortnight on average.

Using English battlefield case studies, this talk will examine the value of battlefields as heritage resources, what threats they face, and how the Battlefields Trust attempts to manage and mitigate harm to historic fields of conflict.

It will explore the successes the Trust has enjoyed and the challenges it faces in managing battlefield threats.  Finally, the presentation will outline how Battlefields Trust members can help efforts to protect better these fragile and historically important landscapes.
