Battle of Norton St Philip 1685

Sunday 10th May 2026

Join Society for Army Historical Research chairman Ashley Truluck for an exploration of this little-known clash between Monmouth’s rebel Army and Churchill’s pursuing royalist professionals, which has become part of local folklore.  We will be visiting the locations where the two armies met in the historic village of Norton St Philip and the beautiful Somerset hills around it.

Meet at 10.00 am in the garden of the George Inn in the High Street (BA2 7LH) where Monmouth lodged the night before the battle. There is a small car park at the pub and roadside parking available on the west side of village. This will be pleasant gentle walk of 2-3 miles (2 hours) through the village and surrounding fields, followed by pub lunch in the George Inn for those you wish to stay on.

For further information contact Ashley Truluck using the contact details below. Ashley would be grateful if you could let him know if you plan to attend.
