The Clock Tower in St Albans

Second battle of St Albans 1461

Sunday 14th September 2025

Join the Beds, Herts & Middx region of the Battlefields Trust to walk the southern section of the second battle of St Albans (17 February 1461).

The walk covers the initial stages of the battle when a Lancastrican army led by Queen Margaret of Anjou and the duke of Somerset attacked a Yorkist force under the earl of Warwick that had occupied St Albans and established a fortified camp to the north on Bernards Heath.

Meet at 2.00 p.m. outside the Museum + Galleries in the Old Town Hall in St Peter's Street (AL1 3DH). The walk will last approximately two hours and finish at St Peter's church (AL1 3HG) at the opposite end of St Peter's Street around 4.00 p.m.

As this is a Big Battlefield Walks Weekends event advance booking is required. Please visit Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1444640070339?aff=oddtdtcreator to reserve a ticket. If you are unable to attend after you have booked a ticket, please inform the event organiser using the contact details below or cancel your booking on Eventbrite.

The walk is accessible to wheelchair users as it will be mainly on pavements. There are, however, some steep hills and inclines to negotiate. Under 18s are welcome, but they must be accompanied by an adult.

There is no parking by the Museum + Galleries, but there are public car parks available just a five minute walk away in the Maltings (AL1 3HL) or Drovers Way/Russell Avenue (AL3 5EB).
