The Sedgemoor battlefield memorial

Battle of Sedgemoor 1685

Sunday 6th July 2025

Join the Wessex Region for a walk led by Ashley Truluck (Chair of the Society for Army Historical Research) across the battlefield of Sedgemoor - the last battle fought on English soil; and Marlborough’s first victory.

The walk will follow the route of Monmouth's famous night march and finish at the site of loyalist camp in Westonzoyland where there is a small visitor centre and an opportunity to stay on for lunch at the Sedgemoor Inn.

The route is approx 2.5 miles from the Car Park, so a round trip of about 5 miles over flat ground in the Somerset Levels – but we can arrange a lift back to the initial car park if necessary. We may vary the programme to take advantage of any re-enactments taking place that day.

Meet: 10 a.m. at the car park by Parchey Bridge on Ward Lane, Bridgwater TA7 8RW (What3Words cowboy.skirting.stamp).

The walk is free to members, and non-members are equally welcome (small donation appreciated). No booking required, but it would be helpful if you could advise attendance in advance if possible for this, and for further information please contact Ashley Truluck using the details below.
