Battle of Winceby 1643 and Civil War Day at Old Bolingbroke - Saturday 12th October
Don Smith will lead a tour of the battlefield on which Oliver Cromwell and Thomas Fairfax fought together for the first time and where Cromwell was very nearly killed. The Spirit of Sutterby Heritage Project have arranged a Civil War day to which BT members are also invited.
Members should arrive at Snipe Dales Country Park, PE23 4JB by 0945, where the toilet facilities can be used. We will then move to Chapel Lane to meet up with members of the Spirit of Sutterby Heritage Project for the walk around the battlefield. On completion of the walk the day will continue at Old Bolingbroke for an afternoon lecture by Jon Fitzgibbons, from the University of Lincoln, on the Civil War in Lincolnshire. This will then be followed by guided visits to the church and/or castle. BT members are welcome to join these events with a charge of £5 per head. You can bring your own picnic lunch to Old Bolingbroke Village Hall, where hot drinks and cakes will be available.
