The Battle of Winwick 1648 - in Major John Sanderson's Shoes

Monday 19th August 2024

Major John Sanderson, a cavalry commander in Col. Robert Lilbourne’s regiment of horse, took part in the battle of Winwick. His role in the battle is included in his diary which survived the centuries and is today in print.

Paul Wright will lead a two hour walk that retraces, as much as possible, the ground over which Sanderson travelled.

This is a joint event with the Battle of Winwick Society. Meet outside the ticket office at Newton-Le-Willows railway station (WA12 9SF) at 19:00
