The other battlefields of Northamptonshire

To mark the 10th anniversay of its founding, the Northamptonshire Battlefields Society is hosting a one day conference with the Delapre Abbey Preservation Trust to discuss the lesser known battlefields of Northamptonshire.

The programme  will cover

Between Wessex, Mercia and the Viking World: Professor Ryan Lavelle of the University of Winchester will discuss life and warfare on the county's Viking/Saxon frontier.

Castles and Northamptonshire: Dr Dan Spencer will examine the role of castles in medieval warfare and how that impacted on Northamptonshire.

Northampton 1264: Dr Sophie Ambler will discuss the attack on Northampton in the Second Barons' War between the forces of Simon de Montfort and King Henry III

Diggers and Levellers: Graham Evans, the Northamptonshire Battlefields Society Chair, will conclude the conference with a look at 17th century revolutionary movements and their antecedents in the county.

Attendees will also have exclusive access to view the Abbey interiror, including the Everard Bouverie Waterloo sword and medal

The conference will take place at Delapre Abbey, London Road, Northampton, NN4 8AW from 10am - 4pm.

Tickets are priced at £45 per person, £40 for members of the Northamptonshire Battlefields Society and the Battlefields Trust.  Ticket price includes refreshments and a light lunch.
