RAF Riccall and Yorkshire Air Museum Elvington

Wing Commander (Retd) Jeff Metcalfe QVRM AE will lead a circular walk of about 2.5 miles round the former RAF Riccall which was operational between 1942 and 1945 as a satellite to RAF Marston Moor, training pilots to fly heavy bombers.  Meet at 10.00am at Olivia’s Tea Room, Hollicarrs Holiday Park, York Road, Escrick, York, YO19 6EE for coffee/breakfast and then at 10.45am meet at the A19 Business Park, Selby Road, Riccall, YO19 6QR.  Suitable footwear for muddy conditions and warm clothing advised!  There are no facilities on the airfield. Free to Battlefields Trust members; non-members are invited to make a minimum donation of £5.  Dogs on leads welcome.

After the walk, there is the option to travel to the Yorkshire Air Museum, Halifax Way, Elvington, York YO41 4AU.  Entry is £16.00 on the gate, £15.00 in advance online (tickets are valid for 12 months after purchase so you can revisit free for a year).  It will be possible to buy lunch at Café 77 (or bring your own picnic to eat in the picnic area) and Wg Cdr Metcalfe will be on hand to talk about RAF Elvington and some of the exhibits.  There will also be a chance to see the new exhibition, Fight for Liberty 44/45. Dogs on leads are welcome throughout the Museum, including in the café. www.yorkshireairmuseum.org.
