The sieges of Chichester 1216 and 1642

Sunday 14th April 2024

Although Chichester is better known as a Georgian city in Roman walls it played a minor part in the First Barons' War in 1216 and was famously captured, and its cathedral ransacked, by the parliamentarians in 1642. This 2hrs 30mins walk, which will also include an introductory talk, will explore the sites of these two events, including Chichester's famous cathedral.

Departs 10.30am Sunday 14 April from the City Council House, North Street, Chichester PO19 1LQ. 

Best parking: Northgate Car Park POl9 6AA, by the Chichester Festival Theatre.

 The walk will end at Chichester Cross, a 9-minute walk back to the car park, and there are numerous places for refreshment both before and after the walk.
