New Battlefield Trail at Stoke Field (1487) Launched

The Battlefields Trust and Nottinghamshire County Council have created a new battlefield trail at Stoke Field to allow visitors to explore the last battle of the Wars of the Roses.  The trail was officially opened on 16 June 2018 by the Chair of Nottinghamshire County Council, Councillor Sue Saddington

 

The trail is supported by a series of infromation boards which tell the story of the dramatic events of the battle.  A trail leaflet and short videos which explain how the battle came to be fought and what happened can be accessed at http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/culture-leisure/heritage/battle-of-stoke-field

 

A trail was created for the 500th anniversary of the battle in 1987, but the trail fell into disuse and the information boards were relocated to the church at East Stoke.  

 

The battle of Stoke Field was fought on 16 June 1487.  It saw rebel Yorkist forces under the Earl of Lincoln and Lord Lovell defeated by the Royal army under the command of Henry VII and the Earl of Oxford.
