Siege of Bedford Castle 1244

Sunday 20th May 2012

Sunday 20th May 2012

Siege of Bedford Castle was the last great siege of the First Baron's War. In 1244, its custodian Fawkes de Breaute abducted one of the King's justiciars and held him prisoner. King Henry III was outraged and laid siege to the castle in June. In the siege which lasted eight weeks, every technique of medieval siege warfare was used yet it still took three assaults to break into the castle. Meet at 11.00am outside the Embankment Hotel, The Embankment, Bedford MK40 3PD.
