Shakespeare on English Battlefields
We have previously reported that as part of their touring production, Shakespeare’s Globe will be performing Shakespeare’s Henry VI trilogy on some of the sites of the battles featured in the plays. Nick Bagnall, Director, commented ‘I don't know of any better way of acknowledging and honouring our history than playing these beautiful plays on battlefield sites’ and he recently travelled to Towton with Julian Humphrys, our Development Officer, for a guided walk around the site of the decisive battle of 1461. The three plays (Harry the Sixth, The Houses of York and Lancaster and the True Tragedy of the Duke of York) will be performed together at Towton (Sunday 14 July), Tewkesbury (Sunday 4 August), St Albans (Sunday 11 August) and Barnet (Saturday 24 August). There will be breaks between the three shows. The plays will also be performed in a number of theatres, including the Globe itself.
