Cromwell's Oxford Raid and the Battle of Islip Bridge 1645

Sunday 23rd April 2017

The battle of Islip Bridge was one of a series of small engagements around Oxford at the end of April and the beginning of May 1645. Islip Bridge was the first that was fought by Oliver Cromwell during his ‘raid’, which was ordered by Parliament to disrupt the royalists around Oxford. Gregg Archer will discuss this little known battle, explaining more about the raid and the impact that it had on royalist preparations for the 1645 campaign
