Edmund Ironside and Canute Peace Treaty

Sunday 6th November 2016

1000 years ago, after an extraordinary sequence of battles, peace was concluded between Canute and Edmund Ironside following single combat between them (perhaps). This is thought to have taken place on an island (now part of the mainland) just south of Deerhurst. There will be a talk and walk to commemorate this event starting at 10 AM from outside Odda’s Chapel in Deerhurst which is a village south of Tewkesbury off the A 38. Parking in Deerhurst will be arranged; toilet at the rear of nearby St Mary's Church. Check the Website nearer the time for any further details or contact Tony Spicer at a.spicer@btinternet.com or tel. 01684 572925.
