Battle of Ripple Field

Saturday 23rd April 2016

Tony Spicer will be leading a walk over the site of this little known but hard fought Civil War battle which resulted in a dramatic victory by Prince Rupert’s brother Prince Maurice over Sir William Waller. The battle was part of an on going struggle for control of the River Severn. It is intended to explain the campaign before the walk and hopefully to make a modest extension to the end of the usual walk to explore the direction of the parliamentary retreat which was assisted by a sortie from their Tewkesbury garrison, a topic which we have not covered before.

Start at 1.45 pm at the Railway Inn, Station Road, Ripple GL20 6EY where lunch / refreshments can be obtained beforehand.
