Battle of Winwick Pass 1648

Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd August 2015

Following their defeat at Preston on 17 August 1648, the Scottish royalist army retreated toward Warrington.  Just north of Winwick some of the infantry made a stand against the pursuing parliamentarian forces.  The hard fought battle which ensued with the New Model Army sealed the fate of the Scottish army and secured victory for Parliament during the second Civil War.

On both days the walk will depart at 10:00am from the memorial opposite The Swan public house and restaurant Golborne Road, Winwick, Warrington, Cheshire, WA2 8LF.  The walk will last around three hours.

Spaces on the walks are limited and those wishing to participate should let Richard know in advance via the email address below.
