Battle of Mortimer's Cross 1461

Saturday 25th April 2015

This key Wars of the Roses battle near Leominster in Herefordshire in February 1461 revived Yorkist fortunes after their defeat at Wakefield all but extinguished their cause. The Yorkist victory here led directly both to the execution of Owen Tudor, step father of Henry VI and grandfather of Henry VII, and to the accession of Edward IV. Famous for the appearance of a triple sun (a parhelion) debate rages as to the details of the battle.

As part of a wider project to research the battle the Trust is planning a days’ programme of activities including visits to both the rival sites (around 4-5 miles walking, in two walks) to weigh the evidence. Alternative vehicle tour planned if weather inclement.

ALL PLACES HAVE NOW BEEN TAKEN FOR THIS EVENT. Please email Anthony for details of future events at Mortimer's Cross.
