Walk and Talk on the Second Battle of St Albans 1461

Sunday 14th September 2014

This event is also part of the Heritage Open Days programme for 2014.

This event on the afternoon of Sunday 14 September 2014 is the presentation and interpretation of a battlefield in the northern part of St Albans.  The battle was the Second Battle of St Albans (1461) in the Wars of the Roses.  The Lancastrians under Queen Margaret of Anjou and the Duke of Somerset defeated the Yorkists led by the Earl of Warwick (Warwick the Kingmaker) and recaptured King Henry VI.  The battle was featured in the opening moments of the BBC’s “White Queen” series last year.

The event will be in St Saviour’s Church Hall, Sandpit Lane, St Albans, Herts.  AL1 4DF.  There will be a talk about the battle followed by refreshments and a view of some exhibits.  There will then be a walk round the battlefield (sometime after 3.30pm).

The event is jointly sponsored by the Sandridge 900+ Committee and the Battlefields Trust.

The event is free, but refreshments (provided by the Friends of St Saviour’s) will need to be paid for.  Booking is essential, to allow the caterers to know numbers.  There is, therefore, a limit on numbers.   Bookings can be made with Peter Burley on peterburley@btinternet.com   Also, once registered, you will be sent an electronic pack of more detailed information about the event (exact timings, parking, etc.).

The walk will last up to an hour and avoids rough terrain.  Parts of it are not wheel-chair accessible, although the church hall itself is fully accessible.  Do, though, check the weather before coming to ensure suitable clothing and footwear."

This is designed to align this BT/Sandridge 900+ event with the Heritage Open Days requirements.
