London in the 1st World War 1914-18

Saturday 19th July 2014

To mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the 1st World War Chris Everett is leading one of his popular London at war walks.

Our image of the First World War is dominated by the Western Front and the slaughter in the trenches, but the War brought dramatic changes to London with a flood of Belgium refugees, thousands of foreign soldiers, air raids by Zeppelin airships and Gotha bombers, whilst a wealthy fast set tried to ignore the horrors all around them by indulging in drugs and wild parties. Chris will be telling the fascinating story. Meet at 10:30 Saturday July 19th, Holborn Tube, Kingsway exit.
