Battle of Agincourt Conference

Friday 31st July to Monday 3rd August 2015

2015 marks the 600th anniversary of the battle of Agincourt.

A major international conference will be held at the University of Southampton between Friday 31 July and Monday 3 August 2015. (There will be discount rates for members of The Battlefields Trust.)

'War on Land and Sea: Agincourt in Context'

This coincides with the anniversary of the plot to kill Henry V on 1 August ('the Southampton Plot'). The expeditionary army gathered in Southampton and its environs, and sailed from the port in mid August. The city of Southampton still has town walls surviving from this period. There will also be a visit to the Royal Armouries' collection of artillery at Fort Nelson.

The conference will cover many different aspects of medieval warfare, including the culture of war, the 'hardwear' (armour, weaponry, fortifications, ships), armies and navies. There will also be special public events.

Further information is available at the website listed below. This will also contain an Agincourt Who's Who, developed from the Medieval Soldier project (www.medievalsoldier.org), and with other interesting Agincourt-related stuff.

To book your place for this once in a lifetime conference please visit the website (http://www.southampton.ac.uk/agincourt2015/index.page?).  Closing date for conference bookings is 20 July so book now to avoid disappointment.

As part of the Conference weekend we are pleased to announce a public session on Saturday afternoon where we will have world leading specialists presenting their exciting research and giving some thought-provoking lectures.  This public session is just £15 to attend (under 18’s, full time students or in receipt of benefits are free but must still book a place).  Please go to http://www.southampton.ac.uk/lifelonglearning/news/events/2015/08/01-agincourt.page?  to book your place.
