Battle of Alton 1643

Saturday 18th January 2020

On 13 December 1643 Parliamentarian troops launched a surprise attack on the Royalist garrison at Alton. The Royalists made a last stand in St Lawrence Church, which still bears the scars of battle. A brief talk will be followed by a walk around the church and surrounding area. There will also be the chance to visit Alton’s two very tempting second-hand bookshops…

The event is scheduled to last approx 1hr 30mins. It will involve little walking but a fair degree of standing.

Non-members are asked to make a £5.00 donation (refundable if you join on the day)

Meet: 11.00am in St Lawrence Church, Alton, Hants, GU34 2BW
